About S&H
Society and Health was founded by a dedicated group of graduate students at the Harvard School of Public Health in Spring 2009. We hope to provide a forum for debate and discussion about research and policies that affect the social determinants of health in the US and abroad.
Meet the Authors
- Katelyn Mack (ScM), also the author of VeritasHealth, is excited to lead this new effort to incorporate new media in the research and practice of public health. Her major areas of interest include neighborhood and population-level influences on health risk behaviors, including sexual and reproductive health. She also conducts research on the prevention of trafficking for sexual exploitation of women and children.
- Sybill Hyppolite (ScM) loved her first “real job”: community organizing in Chicago. She hopes to apply community organizing techniques not to a presidential career, but to addressing disparities in chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. She is interested in methods to improve public health via an informed, engaged and mobilized public.
- Michelle Lugalia (ScM) is in the lovable Department of Society, Human Development and Health. She is interested in social and historical determinants of health disparities and inequities. She is also interested in the collaborations between the public sphere and community based organizations in an effort to distinguish best practices, evaluate overall effectiveness and develop public health programs and interventions.
